[Spoilers, Trigger warnings]
The Ledge (2022) is set in the Dolomites, with some all right climbing. I really
wanted to like this thriller, starring Brittany Ashworth: a female lead!

Poster looked good, preview looked dodge, and the movie was so bad I laughed out loud.

Some of the climbing is good, but villain Josh is so over the top. He needed to be more subtle or sneaky; internally conflicted.

In climbing movies and books, conflict and tension have to arise from somewhere. For mainstream movies/books that can’t just be about sending the route. The Ledge puts the tension and conflict in through some asshole wankers turning up to climb the same mountain as the women, and Josh tries to rape and does murder the fun girl (sigh) which triggers Kelly (the “good” woman) to flee up the mountain from Mr Murderous Psychopath and friends.

Throughout, Josh is so over the top. He kills a woman and his three oldest mates, setting one on fire and throwing him off the cliff on a rope. Okay.

Kelly's character was good, with determination and endurance. Her ghost-husband scenes were touching.

Ghost husband taught her to dyno, naw! It felt like he was there with her. But his death scene...

He should have just been hit by a truck, not untied unsafely in the middle of the proposal climb!

The storyline needed more work and the characters more layers, and it could have been a fab climbing movie.
